Michael Colaci is a finance professional, public servant, and dedicated community advocate whose career reflects a longstanding commitment to service, leadership, and civic engagement. Currently serving on the Borough Council of Sayreville for the 2024–2026 term, Colaci combines extensive private-sector experience with active involvement in local government,
volunteer initiatives, and community organizations.
Before entering elected office, Colaci spent nearly two decades working in finance and operations on Wall Street, where he served as a business analyst, project manager, and vice president specializing in business continuity planning. His professional background also includes experience in logistics with FedEx and pharmaceutical distribution, giving him a strong foundation in operational management, infrastructure planning, and organizational efficiency.
Long before joining the Borough Council, Colaci dedicated himself to local service through
numerous municipal boards and advisory commissions, including the Shade Tree Commission
and Recreation Advisory Commission, and later served on the DPW Advisory Board and Public
Safety Board upon his election to Council.
Michael currently serves as the liaison to the Borough’s Cultural Arts Council, supporting initiatives
that expand arts programming, cultural events, and creative opportunities within the community.
As Recreation Liaison, Colaci has played an active oversight role in several major park and
recreational improvement projects throughout the borough. He is also currently working
alongside Borough professionals as preparations move forward for the upcoming bid process
related to improvements at Bailey Park. Colaci has emphasized the importance of working
collaboratively with professional staff to ensure projects are properly planned, funded, and
executed in ways that best serve residents and families.
Recognizing the importance of modern recreational infrastructure, Colaci also identified the need
for upgraded lighting at the Sayreville Little League complex and worked with borough
professionals to secure grant funding necessary to complete the project. He has viewed these
investments as important steps toward improving safety, accessibility, and opportunities for
youth athletics and community recreation.
Committed to public safety and emergency preparedness, Colaci is a certified member of the
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), where he assists in disaster preparedness
efforts and supports first responders during emergencies. As a strong advocate for first
responders, he was instrumental in advocating for a new fire engine to replace the aging
apparatus stationed at the Morgan Firehouse, emphasizing that reliable, life-saving equipment
must remain a top priority for public safety in the community. He has also been an outspoken
supporter of Sayreville’s volunteer firefighters, advocating for increased clothing allowances and
continued improvements to the Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) to better recognize
and support the dedication of volunteer emergency personnel.
Colaci also currently serves as Council liaison to the Library Board of Trustees and Commission
on Aging and works closely with the Borough’s Active Adult Center to support senior
programming, wellness initiatives, and outreach services for older residents. In his liaison role
with the Library Board of Trustees, he supports efforts that promote literacy, educational
programming, community engagement, and continued accessibility to valuable public resources
for residents of all ages.
Outside of government service, Colaci and his wife, Mary Civinski, are active members of the
Rotary International network through the South Amboy/Sayreville Rotary Club. Together, they
support initiatives benefiting local veterans, student scholarships, youth development programs,
and a variety of charitable community projects rooted in the Rotary principle of “Service Above
Self.”
A father of five, Colaci has also been shaped by personal experiences that inform his
commitment to advocacy and compassion. He and his wife previously served as foster parents
and later adopted a child placed in their care, an experience he has described as deeply
meaningful and transformative. He has also spoken openly about the importance of supporting
individuals and families impacted by substance-use addiction.
Throughout his public and community service, Colaci has remained focused on strengthening
neighborhoods, improving infrastructure, supporting local businesses, promoting transparency,
and preserving the quality of life for residents. He prides himself on being accessible and
available to any resident who may need assistance, have concerns, or wish to offer ideas and
suggestions to improve the community. His work reflects a practical, community-centered
approach grounded in leadership, volunteerism, accountability, and long-term investment in the
people he serves.
