John Zebrowski has dedicated his life to serving Sayreville, and he’s running for reelection to continue building a strong, connected community for the families, children, and neighbors who call it home.
A 35-year veteran of the Sayreville Police Department, John served as Chief of Police from 2011 to 2022, leading with integrity, professionalism, and a deep commitment to public safety. Rising through the ranks from Patrol Officer to Chief, he gained a firsthand understanding of the needs of our neighborhoods and the importance of leadership that listens and responds. Throughout his career, John worked to keep families safe while building trust between law enforcement and the community, believing that effective policing goes hand-in-hand with fairness, transparency, and respect for the rights of every individual.
John has long believed that strong communities are built through involvement, trust, and a
shared sense of purpose. That belief continues to guide his work on the Borough Council,
where he focuses on improving everyday life and creating opportunities that benefit
families across Sayreville.
One of John’s top priorities has been investing in the places where people come together,
our parks. He has been a strong advocate for the upcoming transformation of Bailey Park,
with work set to begin soon to reimagine it as a modern, inclusive space where children of
all abilities can play, families can gather, and community events can thrive. As the park
evolves, it will not only better serve the surrounding neighborhoods, but also become a
place that brings people together from across Sayreville, another step toward creating
spaces people are proud to visit and spend time in. This reflects a broader commitment to
enhancing recreational spaces throughout the borough so that every neighborhood has
places that strengthen connection and community.
John has also been a leading voice in shaping Sayreville’s future through the Sayreville
Economic and Redevelopment Agency (SERA). He believes redevelopment should be open,
transparent, and guided by the voices of the community. By keeping folks informed and
engaged, John is helping ensure that growth reflects what matters most to the people who
live here. His vision is to move Sayreville from a place people pass through into a
destination where families want to spend time, businesses want to invest, and the
community continues to grow with pride.
For John, service has never been confined to a job, it’s been a lifelong commitment. From his
years in law enforcement to his time studying and practicing law, each step in his career has
been about helping people, solving problems, and giving back to the community that shaped
him. While he has stepped away from actively practicing law, he remains licensed in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania and continues to share his experience on public safety and
policy issues. He has also taken on leadership roles at the state and national level, including
serving as President of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, always with a
focus on strengthening both the profession and the communities it serves.
John’s commitment to Sayreville extends well beyond his professional life. He has
volunteered as a coach and manager with Sayreville Little League, helping young athletes
learn the value of teamwork and dedication. He later served as President of the OLV Athletic
Association, supporting youth programs that bring families together and create
opportunities for children to grow and succeed. He has also been a swimming official,
staying actively involved in local athletics.
Today, John continues that commitment as President of the Middlesex County 200 Club, an
organization dedicated to supporting first responders and their families in times of need
and recognizing their service and sacrifice each year. It’s a role that reflects both his lifelong
connection to public safety and his belief in standing by those who serve our communities.
He has also served on several local boards and committees, including the Sayreville Board of
Education, Planning Board, Recreation Advisory Committee, and the Board of Adjustment.
These experiences have given him a well-rounded understanding of how local government
works, and more importantly, how decisions impact families, neighborhoods, and the future
of the community.
John Zebrowski has called Sayreville home his entire life, where he and his wife, Kim, raised
their three children. Like so many families in our community, they built their lives here,
through schools, sports, neighborhoods, and friendships that span generations. That
personal connection continues to shape his commitment to the borough and the people who
call it home.
He continues to believe there is no better place to live, raise a family, and be part of
something bigger than yourself. It’s that belief, and a lifetime of service, that drives his work
each day and reflects the spirit of what it means to be Sayreville Strong.
