Fred Block was born in Morristown, NJ, and grew up in Ocean Township, NJ. He then moved to Long Branch, NJ, after graduating in 1987 from Ocean Township High School in Oakhurst, NJ.
He met his wife Renee (a lifelong resident of Sayreville) while working in EMS and moved to Sayreville in 1996 where they rented a condominium in the Parlin section of town. In 1998, they got married, and in 1999, together they purchased their first home in Green Valley.
He and his wife Renee have two daughters, Julia, age 20, and Hailey, age 16. Julia is a junior at Rutgers University studying journalism and communications. Hailey is currently a junior honors student at Sayreville War Memorial High School and is active in the marching band and theater. As a Band Dad, Fred has worked to help the kids raise funds (car washes, coin tosses, etc.) and has advocated for support of the band and the music program to the Board of Education and in the community.
Fred has been working in Telecommunications since the late 90s and currently works as an Engineering leader for a Manhattan-based company. Previously, he worked in EMS (Emergency Medical Services), both professionally for over 10 years but also as a volunteer on the Long Branch First Aid and Rescue Squad since 1988 where he is still a life member. He is currently an associate member of the Madison Park Fire Company in a Fire Police role and also assists the department with their technical and IT infrastructure.
He has been active in community politics for many years. He is currently an administrator for an active Facebook community for residents of the town and at one point was a member of the Borough Technology Advisory Board. Through social media, he has provided an abundance of information about current events and issues in Sayreville, along with occasionally broadcasting events live with video and chat for those who could not attend.
In his spare time, Fred enjoys traveling (particularly by cruise ship) and also riding his Harley. He has a Technician class Ham Radio license (KD2TQF) and also enjoys relaxing with a good cigar.
